Twenty three Skyraiders were ordered by the Navy as AD-3QUs for use as target tugs. However, the development
of the Mark 22 target initially tested on the AD-2QU eliminated any need for this
special version, and all of the aircraft on this order were delivered as AD-3Qs for use as two-seat
electronic countermeasures aircraft. When needed, the AD-3Q could be quickly fitted with a Mark 22
target towing kit.
