Third Series Exceptions

Last revised November 3, 2016

There are several major exceptions to the assignment of numbers in the sequential six digit numbering system.

One of these was the block of six digit numbers assigned to the DASH vehicle (Drone Anti Submarine Helicopter). All of these drones had six digit numbers that began with 00. Noone seems to know why these vehicles were numbered in this way.

Another exception was the serial numbers assigned to the Regulus missile.

Another major exception to the system involved a set of numbers beginning with 198003 and ranging as high as 999794. These were usually planes obtained by the Navy from the US Air Force, but also included planes obtained from some foreign sources. These six-digit numbers numbers were not sequentially assigned, but appear to be based on their former USAF serials, on their manufacturer's serial numbers, or on the serial numbers they used while in the service of a foreign air force. However, there don't appear to be any duplications between these numbers and those in the "normal" sequential serial number range.

The following is a list of these out-of-sequence numbers
